The 2025 Mahindra XEV 9S is finally set to go on sale tomorrow, marking one of Mahindra’s biggest all-electric launches yet. After months of teasers, leaked images and growing anticipation, the brand’s first pure-electric 7-seater SUV is ready to enter showrooms. Ahead of the official price announcement, here’s a complete, in-depth look at what the XEV 9S brings to the rapidly expanding EV segment.
The Mahindra XEV 9S sits on the new INGLO platform and is positioned as a spacious, fully electric family SUV. With its long-range battery options, premium interiors and a strong feature list borrowed from Mahindra’s next-gen EVs, the XEV 9S is gearing up to be a major competitor in India’s electric SUV market.
The design language of the Mahindra XEV 9S immediately stands out. While early teasers hinted at similarities with the XUV700, the production model carries a fresh EV identity that is hard to miss. Mahindra has given the XEV 9S a redesigned front fascia inspired by the XEV 9e, including inverted L-shaped connected LED DRLs and a sharp triangular headlamp setup. This gives the SUV a more futuristic look compared to its ICE sibling.
From the side, the silhouette remains familiar. The kink in the window line near the C-pillar and the flush door handles have been retained, providing aerodynamic efficiency and a clean profile. Mahindra has also revealed new aero-optimized alloy wheels that add visual character and help enhance range.
The rear continues the evolutionary theme with mildly updated internal elements for the LED taillamps. Expect new exterior colours, updated skid plates and subtle cosmetic improvements to differentiate the 9S from the 9e and the XUV700.
On the inside, Mahindra has reserved some of the biggest upgrades for the XEV 9S. The cabin takes clear inspiration from the XEV 9e coupe-SUV, featuring an all-new black and white interior theme, white seat upholstery and a premium dual-tone dashboard. One of the highlights is the triple-screen layout that spans across the dash, giving the cabin a futuristic feel.
Mahindra’s new two-spoke steering wheel makes an appearance here as well, and the flat floor architecture of the INGLO platform ensures a roomier cabin for all three rows. Since the XEV 9S has been confirmed as a 7-seater electric SUV, the third row will play a crucial role in attracting large families. Though unconfirmed, Mahindra may introduce a 6-seater captain-seat layout later.
Expected comfort features include ventilated powered front seats, triple-zone climate control, multiple wireless phone chargers, multi-colour ambient lighting, and a high-end 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system. A heads-up display, keyless entry with push-button start and several connected-car features are also likely. Teasers have hinted that the XEV 9S will carry over at least ten advanced features from the XEV 9e.
Safety remains a major point of focus for Mahindra, and the XEV 9S is expected to pack a comprehensive suite of features. Up to seven airbags are likely, with six expected as standard. Safety tech includes electronic stability control, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera setup and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

Mahindra has kept the official battery and motor specs under wraps, but based on the XEV 9e, we expect the XEV 9S to come with the same 59 kWh and 79 kWh battery packs.

In real-world tests, the XEV 9e managed almost 500 km on a single charge, so the XEV 9S should deliver similar numbers. Since the INGLO platform supports it, Mahindra may also announce an AWD version later, expanding the lineup further.
The Mahindra XEV 9S is expected to start at ₹21 lakh (ex-showroom), placing it directly against the upcoming Tata Safari EV. It will also act as a larger 7-seater alternative to the Mahindra XEV 9e, BYD Atto 3 and the recently revealed Kia Carens Clavis EV, which currently remains the only mass-market 7-seater EV rival.
